FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM UNION MEMBERS

 

 
Question: What are the Local’s office hours?  
Answer: Local 74’s Office hours are 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m Monday through Friday. 
Question: Where is the Local office located?
Answer: The Local 74 Office is located at: 
415 East Plaza Drive
Westmont, Illinois 60559  
The office is located 1 block North of Ogden Avenue and 1/2 mile East of Cass Avenue.
Question: When do I have to pay my union dues?
Answer: All members are responsible for paying their  monthly Union Dues on or before the first of the month.  Dues may be paid in advance and there are special discounts for paying six or twelve months in advance.  Dues may be paid by mail, at our office, or at any regular union meeting.  Always present your plastic Dues/membership card when paying your Union Dues.

As stated in the Constitution, Rules of Order and Codes of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, any member in arrears for dues for two months shall stand suspended automatically, without notice, from all rights, benefits, and privileges of membership.  Any member in arrears for dues for three months shall automatically, without notice, cease to be a member of Local 74IL.  An attempt will be made to notify a member of their delinquency but no notice is required or guaranteed.  If a member is dropped from the Local and they wish to reinstate, within a 1 year period, all back dues and a reinstatement fee must be paid.  

The base dues rate for regular working members of $25 per month has not changed since May of 1987 when it was lowered from $27.

Question: How do I pay for my Union Dues?  
Answer: You can mail your Dues card to the Local 74 Office (address below) with your Dues payment.  It will be properly stamped and returned to you. You can also bring your Dues card into the Local 74 Office, Monday through Friday, from 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Or, you can bring your Dues payment to the Union Meeting on the second Thursday of each month.
  Now your Union dues can be paid by credit card.  Call the Union office for more information.    
Question: Do my Union Dues pay for health  insurance? 
Answer: No, hourly contributions made by signatory employers on your behalf for hours worked, pay for health insurance.
Question:  Do my Union Dues add to my pension?  
Answer:  No, hourly contributions made by signatory employers on your behalf for hours worked build pension credits.
Question: Can a retired member work?  
Answer: Yes, but there are restrictions.  Retired members wishing to return to work   must notify the Secretary/Treasurer of the Union, and the Pension Fund Administrator, at (630) 734-0074, if they are returning to work.  All working members must pay monthly base dues.
Question: What holidays do Bricklayers and Plasterers have off?
Answer:  New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Question: Is work on Saturday paid at regular time or premium time?  
Answer:  There are circumstances in which Saturdays must be paid at 1½  or 2 times the base rate.  Please check with Greg Posch or Dave Naprstek at (630) 734-0074 if you are unsure of the Saturday rate of pay for the job in question.
